Sports Fields

We understand the inconvenience of having a water logged and out of action field due to lack of drainage. Well drained soil is the key to most sports field operation during the winter months. Sports Field Drainage is slightly different in action to other Subsoil Drainage or Subsurface Drainage systems. On a sports field, the ground usually consists of a dense low draining soil or clay, therefore the water table is usually quite close to the surface. This means that the water will not drain through the soil, but rather sits on the field. This picture demonstrates how the water on the top of the field will drain over the surface and into the drains.

Sports Field Drainage systems are specially designed and constructed to ensure little harm is done to the existing surface. All excess spoil is also loaded straight into one of our tip trucks so there is no mess on the field. Upon completing the drainage system and backfilling the trenches with sand, there are a few options to complete the process. Reliant on your needs for your Sports Field Drainage, we can either spread grass seeds to match the existing turf or lay grass sods over the trenched areas. This ensures that the field is back to looking its best within a few weeks of works.

Aussie Drain has 4 specialized laser guided Sports Field Drainage machines and a laser-guided AFT Whizzwheel to their disposal to install any design of Sports Field Drainage.

All our Sports Field Drainage trenchers work as “all in one” operation , which means , the trench is dug using a laser for depth control , spoil is loaded onto a tipper , the pipe is installed on a bed of gravel , sand or PVC membrane an covered with backfill.

This ensures that the drainage pipes are placed accurate and always in the centre of the trench.

With specially designed turf friendly tracks or low ground pressure Trellerborg tyres any Sports Field Drainage system, for instance a slit drainage system with a 75 mm wide trench and a 50 mm drainage pipe or 400 mm wide trench with a 250 mm drainage pipe can be installed quickly and with minimal disruption to the existing field.
